Kali & John's Engagement Session

Kali and John are the type of couple that bring exciting energy wherever they go. We had an instant connection with them, and have so much in common. The State Fair is an iconic week-long event in North Carolina that draws over a million people from all over. This year, it attracted the fourth-highest attendance rate of all time! So waiting in line was just an opportunity to have fun getting to know Kali and John better and celebrating their engagement. We can't wait for their wedding at The Umstead in October 2018!

From the Couple

Q: What's the story behind choosing the State Fair for your Engagement Session?
A: We chose to do it here because this was where we first met and had our first date!
Q: What was your favorite thing about the engagement shoot?
A: That it was fun! We had a blast with Shaun and Danielle playing fair games, going on rides, and eating fair food. :)
Q: We love proposal stories, tell us about yours...
A: When we knew we wanted to spend forever together we decided to take the next in our relationship and move in together. We started to look at homes to rent, when we stumbled upon a new neighborhood and decided to buy our first home! The day we moved into our home was hectic and our movers were at the house until 8pm. We were starving so we ordered Chinese takeout, grabbed a shower, and sat on our couch in our pjs to eat (since we didn't have a kitchen table yet!). John bought a bottle of champagne to celebrate our first night in the house and shortly after we popped the bottle he told me he had a housewarming gift for me but that I had to close my eyes. When I questioned him he assured me that, "It's small and I just hope we can find somewhere to put it" ...so I closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes he was down on one knee and without any hesitation popped the question! I was completely shocked and speechless for the first minute before I remembered that I needed to say yes!
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten since being engaged?
A: Marriage isn't always going to be 50/50 give and take and that's okay because you're a team and relying on each other builds trust.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?
A: Saying our personal vows
Q: How would you describe your engagement shoot?
A: It was even better than we had hoped! We really enjoyed getting to know Shaun and Danielle and had a lot of fun which shows in our photos.
